News Anchors
Back in the olden days, editors refused to let reporters use passive voice. Evidently there's no such prohibition for new anchors, thus one night we heard about "the infant thought to be abandoned by the police..."

The weekend anchor at a small market teevee station commented on the telecast of the big game: "I saw the commercials, and they were great," she says. "But of course the centerfold was the game itself."
The what? Could she have been trying to ad lib "centerpiece"?

Reporting that the jury had been selected for the big trial, the anchor reported that "Seven women and five men compromised the jury."
When our attorney friend heard this, she said, "I want a mistrial!"
